Micro jobs have been around for quite a long time now, and by the looks of it, they will remain to enjoy popularity among online users due to their ability to provide you with some extra cash on the side.
However, not all sites are created equally, which brings us to our topic for the day and makes us question:
Is Hive Work legit, or is it a site we (you) should steer away from? 🤔
With everything that is going on around the world, it is no surprise that the number of people who are becoming more open to the idea of earning online is rising.
Studies show that the number of available remote work jobs is significantly increasing, which is why we are experiencing a shift in how we perceive the legitimacy of online work opportunities.
Gone are the days when we had to struggle with our pay from our 9-5 grind because today, you can actually have a side-hustle and earn some quick cash wherever you are in the world.
Like you, I have always been interested in getting the first dibs about opportunities that can help augment my finances. After all, who wouldn’t want to earn a few dollars during their free time?
Online hustles can come in all forms, shapes, and sizes. 🙂
If you see yourself as someone who can squeeze in projects, you can turn to freelance services like Upwork or PeoplePerHour.
On the other hand, if you feel that you have unique talents and superior services to offer, you can sign up with an earning platform like Fiverr.
However, if you are someone who does not have a lot of free time to do freelancing gigs, you might want to try out completing online micro-tasks instead.
Generally, micro-tasks refer to temporary projects that involve completing small tasks in exchange for a certain amount.
While it will never be comparable to the amount you can earn from affiliate marketing, it is still an excellent way to finance necessary expenses and last-minute purchases.
Depending on the task’s difficulty, the pay can go as high as $30 and as low as a few cents. With this being said, you sure can bet that I have tried and tested a wide range of services.
From cult-favorites (such as Lionbridge, Honeygain, Remotasks, and UserTesting) to the newest applications (like Jag Rewards, Clipclaps, and Cashzine) that promise to pay you for every completed task.
I love micro tasks because they offer unmatched flexibility, which means that you do not have to worry about contracts or legal commitments.
In today’s Hive Work review, I decided to answer one of the most frequently asked questions about this site. Is it legit, and can you really earn money by completing simple tasks?
If you feel that you can have fun categorizing pictures and texts, drawing boxes, and transcribing audio files, then you might find Hive Work perfect for yourself. (or can you?)
Before I begin the review, allow me to state some of the reasons I’m doing this. 😊
You see, ever since I started working online, my goal has remained the same – to help as many people to embark on their online journey and achieve financial freedom by taking advantage of my personal advice.
In this sense, you can rest assured that this review will contain only my honest opinions about the service, meaning that I won’t promote or upsell you on anything.
I am not associated with the Hive Work platform, and you can be confident that I won’t lure you into signing up by promising you that you’ll earn $1000 by tomorrow.
By the end of this post, I will also share my most recommended platform for earning online, which I firmly believe can help you turn your life around, as it did for me!
If that sits well with you, then let’s get this Hive Work review started! 🏁
Welcome to My Hive Work Review!
Allow me to reiterate that Hive Work is not a substitute for your real job.
You might see other reviews or hyped up YouTube videos saying that you can rely on this platform alone, but let me tell you this – it cannot pay your bills! ❌ 😐
It can afford you some Starbucks coffee, but it can never really amount much to anything other than that. If you really want to be profitable, you have to take in more than just one or two tasks.
Given the nature of micro-tasks, the jobs you can find here are quite straightforward and can be finished in a short span of time. Some examples include basic transcription services, labelling of pictures, and rating photo quality.
You do not have to be a pro to sign-up for Hive Work, and what’s even better is that you do not need to invest in any equipment as long as you have the basics – internet connection and the basic knowledge in navigating the app and site.
What is Hive Work All About?
Hive Work, also popularly known as Hive Micro, is a modern online platform which pays you money for doing relatively simple tasks through their site and mobile application.
The platform was created by HIVE, an AI company based in San Francisco California, and based on its website, it enjoys an active community with about 1.5 million users from different countries.
What’s great about Hive Work is that anyone can easily sign up and start working with them without having any previous knowledge or expertise in a particular field.
Regardless of your age, as long as you have a valid PayPal account, you can start taking an unlimited number of tasks and have the payment reflect into your account as soon as you reach the payment threshold of $2.
Working just like Remotasks, Hive Work will give you jobs depending on your qualifications. You see, before landing a task, you will be prompted to take a qualification test first.
This ensures that the quality of your task will be a good fit for the requirements of the companies they are connected with.
When I initially made an account with them, I was surprised to see that there are a good number of tasks available as long as you pass the qualification test.
However, allow me to say it outright that the payment for each task is significantly lower compared to those done through Remotasks.
At this point, I realized that reaching the required amount for payouts can take you much longer, and this is where it hit me…
If you want to earn more without going through all the hassle, what you can do instead is share your referral code and earn $5 for every member you fetch for the platform.
This is usually what most of the ‘‘influencers’’ on YouTube are doing. You’ve probably seen how they advise their followers to use their codes when signing up for the platform.
By doing this, they instantly get to earn $5 without doing any tasks at all. 😉
If you visit Facebook, YouTube, or Twitter, you will be surprised to know that this company does not have an official account which makes me wonder if they actually have 1.5 million users at all.
However, judging from the number of installs from the Google Play Store and Apple Store, they seem to average at around 500k installs (which is indeed quite a lot).
How exactly does it work?
Joining the platform is easy. All you have to do is register online, apply for available projects and complete the tasks you have unlocked from the qualifying tests.
However, do note that there are strict policies when it comes to committing mistakes. As a general rule, you should have at least 90% accuracy to keep yourself working on the task.
If you fail to maintain that, you will be banned from that certain job, and what makes it even worse is the fact that the ban is irreversible.
As of writing, they mainly offer four types of jobs: 👇
1. Categorizations ✔
This is by far the simplest job offering on the site, which is why you should not expect high payments here. In this job, you will be tasked to choose the best category that suits the pictures shown to you. 🖼️
It may sound easy, but from my experience, the pictures can actually look dim and distinguishing between categories may actually be difficult for some.
2. Bounding Boxes ✔
Ever wondered how “you’re not a robot” tests work? Well, if you answered yes, then this is a job for you. In here, your task is to simply draw a box on the image that they are looking for. 🤖
For instance, you will be given different pictures of parked cars, but your main task might be to box out all the cars that are in a shade of green.
3. Audio Transcription ✔
If you are someone who has good listening skills and has quick keyboard reflexes, you can also do a transcription task where you will need type whatever it is you heard from the audio file. You do not have to edit for grammar, but you will be expected to provide a detailed text file.
4. Semantic Segmentation ✔
Have you ever wondered how your camera can identify whether the object it is pointing at is a human or not? This is done with the help of image labelling through semantic segmentation.
Unlike other jobs, this one is time-consuming and may entail more effort since you will have to map out, identify, and classify all the items in a single picture.
If you are a beginner, the chances of failing are indeed high, especially because this task calls for lesser mistakes.
What’s my take on this?
I appreciate the fact that joining Hive Work is free and that as long as you pass the qualification tests, you can earn from the tasks.
What I personally do not like though is that the rate is just very worthless compared to other micro job sites like Remotetasks.
I mean, I have tried the semantic segmentation counterpart in Remotasks called Lidar, and it can legitimately pay you around 5 dollars per task. Take note – PER TASK!
Unlike in freelancing, you cannot really rush through these jobs just because you want to get more tasks, so with all honesty, I can say that it will probably take you more than seven hours to earn at least a dollar and a few cents!
In this sense, I do not recommend this website at all simply because the time and effort is definitely not worth the pay. In fact, if you want to earn at least $50, trust me when I say that it probably will take you months of consistent completion of tasks. 😵
Is Hive Work Legit?
While the rate is definitely low, I can attest that the company is indeed legitimate and pays on time through PayPal.
However, let me warn you that Hive Work is really not worth your time. If you still want to do micro tasks that can pay well, I suggest that you go for Remotasks or Usertesting instead.
Remotasks is just like Hive Work, but it pays pretty well. Some even made it a full-time job. You should note, though that they are much stricter when it comes to mistakes.
As for UserTesting, this is by far my most recommended micro task alternative as it can give you easy $10 as long as you verbalize your thought clearly during the interview sessions (the pay is as high as $30) or while rating applications or websites (around $10 then).
Micro Jobs are Good, But My Alternative is Much Better! (%100)
And when I say better, I mean waaaay better. Please bear with me cause I’ll explain why that is, but first, I need to ask you a question.
Are you someone who will settle for less than what you deserve?
If you answered NO, then my most recommended way of earning online might be perfect for you, and here’s why.
Not only will it allow you to spend more time on the things you’re passionate about, but it will also give you the freedom to finance your daily living expenses.
My most recommended way of earning online is a business model known as affiliate marketing, and it’s the same model that earns me four figures of passive income a month and allows me to live life on my terms. And NO, I’m not talking about some magical push-button system that will make you an overnight success story. 😃
Instead, the business model I’m referring to is sustainable, and it will grow alongside you and help you follow in my footsteps.
While the term ‘affiliate marketing’ may sound too technical for some, you might be surprised at how straightforward the entire concept is.
All you have to do as an affiliate is to promote and sell other people’s products or services and earn a commission whenever someone clicks on your affiliate link and buys the thing you’re recommending.
However, don’t get things confused. 🙂
Just because it’s straightforward doesn’t mean it’s easy.
Affiliate marketing requires a lot of input from your end, and this is something you need to know of before you decide whether you want to embark on such an online journey.
You’re probably asking yourself – “Why is this guy telling me all of this?”
Because I would love nothing more than to personally mentor you and help you reach the $1000/month in passive income mark.
That’s why I’m inviting you to join many other like-minded, determined individuals and me in the game of organic traffic inside the community that gave me all the training, tools, and support to innovate and thrive in this crazy online world.
The community I’m speaking of goes by the name of Wealthy Affiliate, and it represents the same platform that equipped me with all the knowledge to build the very same blog you’re on now – deefunnels.com.
And the fact that I got you to land on this page and read my Hive Work review should reassure you that I am who I say I am, and most importantly, that I wasn’t lying when I told you that you could follow in my footsteps.
Making a full-time income working from home is indeed a real possibility, and it starts with you joining one of the most prestigious marketing communities you can find nowadays.
The Wealthy Affiliate starter membership is free, meaning that you can sign up and take the platform for a test drive without worrying whether you’re going to get scammed or not.
As I end this article, I hope that I was able to help you form a decision on whether Hive Work is legit or not, and more importantly, whether you should pursue it or look for something else instead.
As always, if you think this post helped you, please feel free to give me a virtual high five by sharing it on social media and let your friends know the truth about this online opportunity. 🤗

This actually sounds like a good microprogram to earn a little money here and there. I never heard of them before, but I’m saving your link.
I do AM, but my sites haven’t taken off yet, so I’ve yet to earn even a $1.
Most people don’t realize that AM is a long term commitment and takes a really long time for people to notice you and buy anything from you.
So, it is what it is.
Since I’m an at-home Mom now with school being strictly online, I really have no other choice but to make money online.
I’ll look into this more since I’m currently in the Broke Boat as we speak. Thanks for sharing this!
Hive work is indeed a legit site, but the payout is simply not worth it. Instead, I would advise you to focus on your AM business and invest yourself fully.
I know it’s hard, but trust me when I say that it will also be worth it one day. Just commit to it, finish your daily tasks, stay persistent, and success will follow!
Also, do not hesitate to reach out to me if there’s some way that I can help. I’d be happy to point you in the right direction and even share some tactics that have worked for me throughout the years.
Thank you for this well researched and laid out article.
It was so informative, and I like the fact that Hive Work has many tasks to do and that the threshold is only $2.
This means it might be worthy for me to try it, but on the other hand, it looks like the good-paying tasks are harder to reach.
I don’t know to be honest, but I might just give this platform a try. What do you think?
Whatever you decide, know that Hive Work is a short term earning platform. It won’t make a significant change in your life, but it might work great for you if you’re looking for an extra $50-100 per month. (if you reach the high-paying tasks, of course)
Hi and thanks for sharing this. I had heard of Fivver, though you can probably tell since I am likely not spelling it correctly that I haven’t looked into it seriously myself.
Like you, I prefer to focus on higher-value opportunities where the margins and rewards are larger. Hive work sounds attractive from the outside until you look into it.
I think none of us would complain if we could do menial tasks and get paid well for it. But doing menial tasks and earning a few cents isn’t worth the time and probably barely covers the wear and tear on your computer and the cost of your internet connection.
I think after the pandemic lockdown experience it will be possible to find many better paid administrative jobs that will move online.
Some of that will be freelance and project-based after all the software industry has been hiring people to do work like that remotely for years now.
Thanks again for the thorough review. I don’t think I will be signing up for Hive Work. Best regards, Andy
Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts with me, Andy. I highly appreciate it!
Honestly, I like micro-jobs, and I think they are a good way for the elderly to earn a decent side income online. However, I would definitely advise youngsters to look somewhere else.
Their energy, focus, and drive can be used for the better. They are more efficient, have more time, and are undoubtedly thirstier for success and growth.
Focusing on building a real online business seems like a far better idea than completing 10 cent tasks, and I know you’ll agree on that.
I’ve come across several micro task sites before joining Wealthy Affiliate. I actually signed up for a couple but never bothered as the pay was so low. I used one called Microworkers for very basic tasks and never understood how anyone was willing to do them. Yes, as a Wealthy Affiliate member myself I can definitely recommend giving it a try. Thanks for sharing:)
It’s always a blessing to see an actual WA member on my blog. Thanks for reinforcing my statement, and I’ll make sure to reach out to you inside WA. Take care, Kathy.
Being a home worker and always at my computer, I am always looking for stuff to do.
I had no idea about some of these micro job sites, and I can definitely use the little bit of extra cash. Every little helps, right?
While I am a WA member, and I do use affiliate links on my site, I have yet to master the art of affiliate marketing while I mostly concentrate on running my site.
Wealthy Affiliate is by far the best platform for marketing given the support, training and relatively low fees considering what you get.
I can also say that I have never been upsold anything from WA, and everything is straight forward and honest.
Als, whenever I have had issues concerning web properties, their amazing Site Support team has sorted them out amazingly quickly.
Cheers for the info.
You’re absolutely right, Michael. Every little bit does help, and it’s certainly always welcome.
The things you get for such an affordable price are unmatched and are yet to be seen and presented by another platform.
Oh, and thanks for reminding me about the upselling part since I always forget to mention that part to people interested in joining.
Thanks for taking the time to share your thought with the other readers of this blog and me, my friend. I highly appreciate it and wish you the best of luck on your online journey.
Thank you for sharing this review; it was exciting to read!
My online journey began about 6 months ago – I was researching many products and platforms. I have tried Transcribeme.com, which claims to be one of the best in this field.
To be able to complete any tasks, you also have to pass the entry exam, which was not easy at all and I actually failed) Then I read many people’s reviews about it saying that it is not possible to earn enough as well, and you have to spend to much time doing these tasks.
So, I decided it isn’t very worthy, and decided that I should try something else instead.
Long story short, a couple of months after, I found WA, and now I’m a proud premium member.
I like it so far, and I’m finally starting to see the fruits of my labour. My blog is only 7months old, but it starting to make sales.
The community and tools are out of this world. They have been very supportive over the past couple of months, and that’s why I strongly recommend WA to anyone keen on building a lasting online business.
People claim that transcribing is a good starting point for online earners, but I’m afraid I have to disagree. It’s time-consuming, doesn’t give you any long term results, and you need to have some skills. (typing fast as hell being one of them)
I’m genuinely happy for you, and I wish you many successes. Also, feel free to reach out to me inside WA if there’s any way that I can help!
