2021 is a year of change and if you are on the lookout for tried and tested ways to embrace a “new life,” then I highly suggest decluttering your home!
Not only will it allow you to reclaim space, but it will also give you more opportunities to earn out of your belongings.
Please find out more about whether Music Magpie is a scam or a legitimate online retailer in my review down below.
Here’s the thing – making our New Year’s resolutions stick has always been part of our traditions.
It’s the time of the year where we strive to continue acceptable practices, accomplish a particular personal goal, and ultimately improve our lives at the start of each year.
With this being said, we usually have some sort of understanding of the goals we are trying to achieve that year.
Some would want to lose weight, try out stocks, establish a profitable online business, learn a new musical instrument, or welcome a completely new lifestyle.
And speaking of new lifestyles – one of the biggest trends today is the concept of downsizing everything!
Even on Netflix, you can find several documentaries focusing on this way of living, from organizing stuff for tiny house living to even building small custom homes (Tiny House Hunters and Tiny House, Big Living).
Do you know the one thing that all of those shows have in common? 😊
Making the most out of your life with the least possible distractions! And if you are going to think deeply about it, you’ll recognize that it actually makes perfect sense!
Do you still need those old Amazon Kindles or tablets that have been lying around your house these past few months? How about your iPod and gaming consoles?
If you feel that you are finally ready to let go of the items you’re no longer using, then it is time to round them up and prepare them for recycling.
With the rise of technology, you no longer have to go to recycling stations to dispose of them. By just merely joining some local groups online, you can clear away everything and have someone get it straight from your doorstep. ♻️✅
However, if your items are still very much usable or at least fixable, I highly recommend selling them online and profiting from them!
You see, aside from eBay, Amazon, and Etsy, there are many online recycling centers that you can choose from.
If you are from the UK, I bet you have heard two of the most popular Music Magpie and Vintage Cash Cow. I recently published a review on Vintage Cash Cow, so be sure to check that out too.
These sites are prevalent since they allow you to earn a much more acceptable amount (depending on the condition) for all your unused items.
easily the best way to make money online!
When I say “acceptable,” I mean that you do not have to worry about paying additional taxes or connecting with the right consumer type to buy your items.
By selling through Music Magpie (for gadgets and collectibles) and Vintage Cash Cow (antiques), you create a more sustainable environment.
You allow your belongings to be upcycled, refurbished, sold to collectors, and be disposed of properly.
And you know what is even better? 😁
You can make money out of almost everything that you have in your home. Are you interested in finding out more about this opportunity?
My Music Magpie review will adequately introduce you to this platform and help you understand whether it’s something you should try out or not.
Before I start, let me just clarify that I am not in any way affiliated with Music Magpie, so you can rest assured knowing that this post will not contain any upsells regarding their platform.
This post is mainly about my honest thoughts on the program, which may deviate from what other hyped posts say. If you are up for the unvarnished truth, then off we go!
Music Magpie Review
The name itself gives you a clear “blast from the past” feel, right? Well, this company first started its journey as an online shop in the music industry.
Back in 2007, Steve Oliver and Walter Gleeson started Music Magpie, where they only focused on buying CDs and DVDs. Upon collection and revamping the units, they sold them back on Amazon and eBay.
The company has made so much money that it became the most prominent global third-party seller under Amazon Marketplace! They boast around 10 million customer feedbacks under their belt.
This made them realize – “It’s about time we create our own platform.” 👈
They have become such a powerful force in the industry that circulating news recently suggests that the company may become an official initial public offering (IPO) on the market.
How Exactly Does Music Magpie Work?
Well, they mainly follow the simple buy and sell structure where they buy off items no matter what their condition is – good, low, or faulty.
Once they have your items on their site, they will have a professional test it out and conduct a thorough evaluation of how much the best price should be for them.
In just a few hours to 5 days, you can get the offer via e-mail.
However, there’s more to it. ⬇️
If you are also on the lookout for some blu-ray titles or LEGO toy collector’s items, you can again go to their website and buy these at a much lesser price.
For instance, if you want to buy a refurbished phone, you can easily do so and take advantage of their 12-month warranty, free delivery, and 14-day money-back guarantee.
If you look into similar selections on Amazon, it is almost impossible to find sellers who give the same warranty and guarantee!
With this being said, purchasing second-hand tech from this store is much more cost-effective than buying from other sketchy sellers online. 👍
Also, I like them because no matter how big or small the value is of your purchased item, you can be sure that they will deliver this straight to your door free of cost.
If you are also planning to buy from them, you can pay through various methods such as Amazon pay, Mastercard, Visa, Klarna, and Paypal.
On the other hand, if you plan to sell on their site, you can also connect your Paypal account or any bank account so that they can transfer you the money after a successful transaction.
They recently updated their system and introduced a same-day payment where you can instantly get the transfer after accepting their offer.
They have been featured in Manchester Evening News, The Guardian, Wired, and Sky News in terms of media presence.
They are also warmly embraced in social media to the point that they have around 53k followers on Facebook and 10.4k on Twitter.
They show a very active social media campaign, and they are actively engaging with their customers by answering comments immediately.
Given their line of business, I find their social media metrics relatively high! 🚀
You see, usually, sites like this do not have a lot of followers since the common perception here is that you can not really profit that much from unused items.
But this is where most people are wrong. 🙂
When you support businesses like this one, you actually help create a more sustainable environment – one where items are maximized and given much more value.
Let me just summarize how it works: 👇
Basically, you just have to go to their site and click on the sell button. From here, you have to manually assess how much the range is for all your items.
Please note that the prices given on the site are not yet guaranteed – they still have to see your actual units and assess their functionality and condition before giving you the best price.
Additionally, you have to reach around the $5 (accumulated) threshold for them to accommodate your transactions.
If you plan to sell Lego collectibles, books, CDs, DVDs, PC, and PS games, you may also do so by simply scanning your items’ bar code through their mobile application.
But here is the tricky part – for items like this, you must be able to satisfy the following:
• Items must have a barcode ✓
• Must have no discoloration ✓
• Games must have the original instruction booklets ✓
• No visible damage on the front and corners of the item ✓
• Lego must all come from the brand itself ✓
• Lego must have no chipped, chewed, or discolored marks ✓
If you can hit the $5 or above, they will send you a Pack & Send Guide containing a list of the items you will be selling, the date they will get the things from you, and the sticker labels you need to include on your box.
Once delivered on their site, you can expect three days to pass before giving you a final offer.
From here, you have two choices – accept the offer and have the payment reflected on your account within the day or think about their offer not longer than 28 days.
After not responding for 28 days, they will have to keep your items until you request a new revaluation of the offer.
If you don’t want the offer, you can decline it right away and have your parcel delivered back to you at no extra cost.
You will have to send your items to them first before the actual offer. 🛑
To help you become more relaxed on the idea of letting go of your items, please note that the company is a safe one, and it has a resounding 4.7 rating on Trustpilot.
It was even nominated as the Best Recycling Service back in 2018 by Tech Radar, and you can always get hold of their customer service through their mobile app and online site.
Is Music Magpie Good?
From their humble beginnings back in 2007, the company grew and was even able to sell around 125 million pounds of used CDs, DVDs, Blu-Rays, games, books, techs, and Legos.
You are probably wondering if it’s indeed possible to sell items on Music Magpie and get value for money, right?
Well, allow me to put your perspective into the correct view. 🤓
You see, when you sell via Music Magpie, they have a distinct scanner program that accounts for your item’s current popularity and compares it to items on competitor’s sites.
After the algorithm has its thing, it will show you three sets of prices depending on the unit’s condition.
With this being said, I highly suggest that you make sure that all your items are still in a worthy condition to get more value for them.
While there is no real range to how much the prices are, the lowest thing that I found on my research is that sometimes, Music Magpie can pay around a penny or 20 pence for some faulty items of unpopular CDs and DVDs.
Allow me to show you this quick video to give you a more precise idea of how much they are paying for some of the most popular games and DVDs.
Like how the video progressed, you probably have the same question of whether Music Magpie is worth it? Well, in my opinion, it’s not.
I think that the only people who should be considering this are those who do not have the time to sell on Facebook or Amazon and are not too keen on the idea of making much. 💰💸
However, if you intend to get more value for money, I highly recommend that you sell on other platforms instead.
I mean, you can even use your social media accounts and sell your items to friends or even join Facebook buy and sell groups (even the Facebook marketplace) in your area and see if someone will be interested.
While it may indeed take much more effort, you can at least be sure that you can negotiate the best prices.
Is Music Magpie A Scam?
To be honest, Music Magpie is not a scam, but I do not recommend it since it does not offer much value for money.
I have tried my hands on actually selling on Facebook and Instagram, and I know for a fact that it’s very much how possible to earn a lot more than what they are giving for each item.
I guess it just depends on whether you will continue selling with them. 🔶
I mean, if your main goal is to dispose of your items properly without all the hassle of setting up an online shop, then, by all means, you can sign up and sell with their platform.
However, if you are someone like me who knows exactly how much my pre-loved items are worth today, then you’re better off selling them online via social media sites.
The only drawback here is that you will have to give time and connect with buyers yourself, but if you do not mind that, please stick to that alone.
Who knows, you might even develop the skill for selling online and maybe start a profitable business one day. And when we’re talking about establishing profitable companies, you might want to see what I prepared for you down below.
Why Not Try My Most Recommended Business Model?
Music Magpie may indeed seem like a great way to earn cash, but let’s be honest here – you cannot really live out of your profits from this site alone.
As a matter of fact – their pay is too low to the point that your profit may just be enough to buy yourself a Starbucks coffee.
Suppose you are fascinated by change and wish to secure your future in the coming years. In that case, I highly suggest that you jump onto my wagon and learn about my most recommended way of earning online – affiliate marketing.
As the name suggests, you will have to dive into the basics of marketing as you will be tasked to establish your very own website (like the one you’re on now) on which you will promote products or services (or both) that you are enthusiastic about.
You don’t have to worry about owning the products since that’s where the beauty of this business model lies.
Because this is a commission-based way of earning, none of the products will actually be yours, but at the same time, the commissions that you’ll be making will make it seem like they are.
Most often than not, they surpass the %40 marks, meaning that you get the chance to profit equal amounts (if not more) with the person or company that you partner up with.
I am an affiliate marketer myself, and here are some of the reasons as to why I think you should consider becoming one too:
- It’s one of the most beginner-friendly business models out there.
- It doesn’t require you to have any expertise or special skills.
- Over %56 of online earners are affiliate marketers.
- It’s so simple. A 4-year old can understand it.
- The passiveness behind it is unlike anything else.
- You can get started with less than a dollar per day.
- Literally, anyone can do it! (see a list of success stories) 🏆
Believe me when I say that I can go on for days about how tempting and flourishing this business model is. Still, it might be best to save us both some time and share with you my ultimate affiliate marketing guide instead.
In there, you’ll find everything you need to know about AM, including what it is, how it works, and how you too can start your very first successful affiliate marketing website.
Whatever you do, just please don’t get fooled and begin to think that this is some DFY push-magic-button-system. The blueprint works like a charm, but it requires a lot of perseverance and hard work from your end. 💯 🤟
If it didn’t work like I say it does, it wouldn’t make any sense for me to sit here and write this Music Magpie review and simultaneously introduce you to the platform that helped me get to where I am today.
Without it, I would have probably been another internet dweller trying to figure out how this make money online thing works.
In the past ten years or so, Wealthy Affiliate has been the go-to educational platform for affiliate marketers of all levels.
Inside, you get the chance to communicate with some of the world’s top affiliates and get all the pieces of training, tools, and support to go out there and build your very own fruitful online business.
The platform currently deals with a one-of-a-kind freemium membership model that lets you test out the forum and participate in the course’s first few lessons without actually paying a dime.
You should be at ease knowing that it’s more than enough time for you to decide whether a career as an affiliate is something you should pursue or not.
Just in case you decide to join, know that I’ll personally welcome and mentor you inside and unselfishly share all of my knowledge on a silver plate. ⭐
I’m not some know-it-all-guy. I’m just fortunate enough to have come across this community that has helped me to navigate the storms ahead and made my journey less challenging than it should be.
As I end my review, I hope that I could shed light on whether Music Magpie is a scam or not.
If you liked this post, I’d appreciate it if you can share it on your social media pages so that we can spread the truth about UK’s number one retailer.
If you want to ask something or simply share your opinion with me, feel free to do so by leaving a comment down below. As for me, I’ll make sure to get back to you as soon as I can. 🏁
Music magpie is a massive scam! Checkout Sitejabber, they have plenty accounts of MusicMagpie scamming.
I have never heard of Music Magpie, but it’s clear to me that there is a low ceiling when it comes to earning potential after reading this review. Y
Your recommendation seems like a more viable option, especially since affiliate marketing is much easier to scale.
Scalability is one of the three factors I’m always looking for when investing. I like to put in time and effort into a long-term, growable project that can provide me with a steady income flow. In this case, it’s the site you’re currently on.
I enjoyed your Music Magpie review, and I am sorry to hear that it is not a great opportunity considering they have been around since 2007.
I was expecting to hear they came up with a good new avenue to sell your items on. Guess I will stick with the Facebook marketplace, for now, to get rid of stuff.
I’ve heard a lot of great things about the affiliate marketing platform you are recommending. Hard to believe you can get all of what they offer for that price.
Also, you’re doing a great job with all the graphics on your site. I love them.
Thanks for your kind words, Rob.
The graphics are just there as a way to express my creativity, and the fact you like them gives me a clue that I’m doing a good job.
Thanks for the comment, my friend. It’s always a blessing to hear from someone like yourself.
I’ve heard of Music Magpie but never considered using it.
I agree that it’s probably better to use the Facebook marketplace or other social media sites. Selling your old CDs or DVDs doesn’t sound the best way to generate an income, especially on Music Magpie.
Your recommendation seems far more reliable, so I might as well give it a try and see what I do from there.
The profit margins are significantly higher when selling on Facebook and other social media sites.
I’ve also used Craigslist in the past, but the only downfall is that sometimes it can take a long time until a buyer reaches out to you.
I’m happy that you decided to give WA a shot, and I hope you’re willing to learn because we have a lot to cover. See you on the other side, Kathy.
