What Is Varsity Tutors All About?

While the company’s name may sound like an athletic coaching service, it’s actually one comprehensive educational platform.

You see, it efficiently connects students and professional tutors that can help in supporting the academic deficiencies from across subjects. By “subjects,” I do not just mean the basic math, science, and English, okay?

I mean complex subjects (from Pre-K to graduate class), technical and professional certifications, and even music and business!

Unlike other platforms, this one offers a wide range of subjects, making it one of the go-to services of thousands of students from the United States.

As you can see from this video, Varsity Tutors is not just for undergraduate students but also perfect for professionals. 

Come on, the reality here is that all of us are not experts, and regardless of our age, having some educational support can help you to achieve your full potential. 

As of writing, Varsity Tutors has around 40k experienced tutors who are carefully selected through a specific hiring process that has been continuously updated since 2007. 

From the traditional face-to-face booking of tutors, the company has transitioned into innovative learning technologies by creating a robust platform (with collaborative spaces and interactive tools) on their site for both the instructors and students. ⭐👨‍🎓

 

In terms of legitimacy, you can rest assured that this company is accredited by BBB, where it has had a resounding A+ rating since 2010. 

Additionally, it also has an almost perfect rating of 4.9 on Trustpilot, where about 93% of customers rated them as “excellent.” In this sense, I have no worries in saying that this company is not a scam.

Suppose you are looking for some receipts on where this company has been given attention. 

In that case, you will find comfort knowing that Varsity Tutors has been featured by prominent media outlets like Chicago Sun-Times, St. Louis Business Journal, Entrepreneur, Bloomberg, and Washington Post, just to name a few.

 

How Does Varsity Tutors Work?

Getting started with Varsity Tutors is pretty straightforward as all you have to do is head over to their site and answer their employment application form online.

It consists of 5 phases where their team will take significant questions about you and your experience.

The first phase of the application begins with you giving them your phone number so they can contact you for an interview along with the name of your referrer if you even have any.

The second phase asks you to choose from 16 categories (with subjects) you are interested in teaching.

The third phase is where you’ll be tasked to list your undergraduate, graduate degree, and teaching certification.

Let’s say you’re taking your master’s and you’re about to graduate within the following year. In that case, you can feel free to write down the anticipated graduation year too.

The fourth phase asks you to note down your scores in 16 different types of tests like ACT English, SAT Math, GMAT, and such.

 

You are free to skip any of the tests if ever you have not taken them. 👈

Also, please note that you should be truthful in answering this because once they schedule you for an interview, they will validate your scores in the tests and your transcripts.

The fifth and final phase is where you’ll be asked to walk them briefly about your experiences in teaching or even tutoring. Additionally, be ready for the essay part, where they’ll ask you about your ideal approach in conducting your first tutoring session with a student.

Once they are done with the screening and review of academic history, you’ll be scheduled for an interview. 📝

 

You can expect a combination of basic questions and situational ones as they will gauge your ability to express instructions and hire the ones with excellent communication skills.

Technically, the process may take a week or two, but once you are accepted, you’ll be granted instant access to the platform where you can personalize your tutor’s profile.

From there, you can also label how much time you are willing to spend and how many students you can cater to in a week.

Additionally, you can set the type of instruction you are most comfortable with: online or face to face. However, given the COVID-19 restrictions, face to face meeting is currently suspended.

 

How Much Does Varsity Tutors Pay? 

You can comfortably earn between $15-$20 per hour and get tips from your students and have them on your PayPal or bank account every 15th and 30th of the month.

Basically, all new tutors all have the rate of $15 regardless of the subjects they are teaching. But, if your subject is under the “others,” like teaching music and coding, then you’ll comfortably get around $20 per hour.

 

Is Varsity Tutors A Scam?

Varsity Tutors is definitely not a scam, and it’s one of the most reputable educational companies out there.

For parents reading this article, I highly suggest that you sign up your kids into their program to get instant access to quality tutors anytime and anywhere.

On the flip side, if you’re reading this post as someone interested in working with Varsity Tutors, I recommend that you don’t hesitate to pursue this opportunity.

While it may not pay as big as traditional tutoring jobs, you can still do it as a side hustle and get a comfortable profit that should probably be more than enough to pay for some bills.

Again, the profit here depends on how much time you are willing to spend tutoring. So, if you are sitting at home and available to work full time as 8 hours a day at the rate of $15 (minimum), you can earn more than two thousand dollars a month, and that’s a pretty solid payday, my opinion.

And what’s even better is that if you decide to drop out of tutoring, you can simply do so by deactivating your account – no contract, no questions asked!

At the same time, as I have stated in the first part of this review, teaching is not really for everyone. So, if you feel that this is not the right opportunity for you, why not consider my most recommended way to make a living online as an alternative?
