International Open Academy Review: Easy $59 Certification?

Anyways, I will share one unique platform with you that you have probably come across while searching for discounted deals online. 

To spare you from spending on something that may not be worth your time, allow me to share what I found about this platform in my unbiased International Open Academy review.

International Open Academy Review

The name itself reflects that the educational company caters not just to specific countries. In this sense, you can expect their curriculum to be more general to be useful for people worldwide. 

I find it a great move because they allow international students to connect and take advantage of their certificate courses.

It was founded in 2015, and it remains to be one of the most popular online learning platforms, as reflected by the number of social media followers – 100k on Facebook, 3.2k on Twitter, and 6.7k on Instagram. 

You might also be surprised that you’ll find hundreds of video content about this brand with a quick YouTube search since it is considered one of the cheapest yet most useful ones out there!

 

It currently offers courses under the following categories:

4. Business & Careers ✓

Each of these courses has specific exams that you have to pass to get the downloadable certificate. The lessons are purely online and will not ask you to buy off additional resources or textbooks. 

The whole curriculum is structured under the assumption that the student is learning the course to launch a new career. Due to this, most explanations are convenient and easy to understand.

Since it is mainly online, all you have to do is register on their site and activate your desired course. 

After that, you can start learning the subject at your own pace, but please note that you have to finish it within the next 60 days, or else you will have to pay the whole amount again to access and complete the course.

In terms of legitimacy, it has a resounding 4.7 rating out of 850 reviews on Trustpilot. It also has a 4.7 rating under Indeed Certifications. 

Most of the comments say that the whole platform is affordable, flexible, and can be considered an excellent tool for those seeking to prepare for a new career. 

However, while it may sound like a great deal, allow me to bring you into reality and cover some of this program’s cons. 👎 ❌

 

You see, unlike other legitimate course providers – International Open Academy is not connected with any institution and does not have a clearly defined team of professionals who are checking, creating, and managing the correctness of the course contents.

In fact, in the FAQ of their site, they vaguely answered that an exceptional team of professionals creates the courses. 

While I don’t have anything against the company, I find it a bit peculiar how they provide certificate courses even though any educational institutions do not regulate them.  

 

I did try one of their courses – The 120-hour TESOL Certificate Course – and I thought it was pretty solid and can come in quite handy, especially for beginners. 

However, do not expect that they will provide in-depth explanations regarding teaching theories. Additionally, it may state that the course is suitable for 120 hours, but the truth is – I managed to finish it in less than five. 

 

International Open Academy Accreditation

Three influential organizations accredit the International Open Academy: ICOES or the International Council for Online Educational Standards (accreditation number ICOES/00763/13/36), CPD or the Continuing Professional Development board (membership code 10817), and the TQUK of the Training Qualifications UK Centre (membership code C001157).

Besides those organizations, I find it weird that other companies do not even mention the company in the same way that its competitors are hyped online. 

But if there is one thing that piqued my interest, it would be that their certificates are actually accepted by some of the companies online. 

 

For instance – if you’re looking to level up your application as an ESL teacher online, adding this under your belt can help speed up the process. 

While any companies or organizations may not have really checked the course content, I have to say that this is one of the quickest ways to earn a guaranteed certificate online at a cheap cost.

 

Is International Open Academy Worth It?

There are two ways I am going to answer this. 😊

First, suppose you are keen on jumping into a new career and looking for additional certificates to show how adept you are despite not having any experience. 

In that case, I highly recommend investing in this and paying the cheap cost to get a certificate and the official completion letter.

If you’d like to order a real copy of your certificate from IOA directly, you can also do so by paying a small fee (depending on the subject). 

But if you ask me, the PDF versions will suffice as you can print them many times and submit them to other companies.

Now, if you are really looking to upskill yourself, I highly recommend that you go over and check the courses from other educational companies like Coursera or edX instead. I mean, the International Open Academy has some great courses under it, but the explanations and coverage are pretty simple. Like I previously told you, I was able to finish a whole class in less than 5 hours.

Here is an example of the free certificate I got from them when I finished my TESOL course under their platform back in 2019. I also got another certificate with ICOES inscription and a completion letter, but I don’t think it is legal to upload those.

 

I think investing with them is good, especially if you are just a fresh graduate who is still navigating your career path.

It holds some unique lessons, and you can be sure that you will have the base-level knowledge since you won’t be able to proceed with modules if you do not pass the gateway exercises.

There are two ways to join them: 👇

 

1. Pay directly on the site ✔

You can head over to their site and look for the course you are interested in. The classes are around €59 or $73, and it already includes a free certificate like the one I showed you.

However, if you want to get a copy of the certificate directly from them or a completion letter with proof, you can expect to pay around €26 or $32.

 

2. Look for discount vouchers online ✔

Now, I also found another friendly way by which you can also take advantage of the said platform. 

You can head over to some of the discount sites and check out if they have a special promotion for a lower rate. Of course, this one depends on your country, but if you go to Groupon, you can get specific courses for just $17!

I tried doing this , and I was able to redeem the discount code through the IOA’s website without any hassle.

 

Is International Open Academy A Scam?

The International Open Academy is as legitimate as it can be. 

There are no legal complaints online, and they are even allowed to operate under discounted deals websites, so that alone shows that this is a reputable company on its own. 

However, if you aim to learn about a particular subject without earning a certificate, I highly suggest that you check out other reputable e-learning websites instead.

Simultaneously, if you need certificates to be submitted in a brief period, you should consider this by all means.

To give you a quick background on my ESL certificate that I gained from IOA, I was able to use it and even got accepted by many ESL companies. 

You see, some organizations may have higher standards for the type of certificate they will approve. Still, it seems that IOA-issued ones are deemed acceptable for big platforms like Dada, Acadsoc, Native Camp, and VIPKID.

 

How I Make A Living Online (A Proven Blueprint!) 

I may not know your exact reason for considering IOA, but I bet that it has something to do with your urge to break free from your day job.
